Three Canadians qualify for World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals

The Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) Beach Sprint Trials concluded with three Canadian rowers qualifying for the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals in Oeiras, Portugal from September 24-26, 2021. The RCA Beach Sprint Trials consisted of a three-part series that launched in Nova Scotia (Lunenburg), came through Ontario (Kingston) and culminated in British Columbia (Cadboro Bay).

Based on their performances at the trials, the following athletes were selected by the RCA High Performance program to represent Canada at the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals later this month:

  • CW1x: Brienne Miller (North Star Rowing Club, Nova Scotia)
  • CM1x: Aubrey Oldham (Leander Boat Club, Ontario)
  • CMix2x: Sarah Pidgen (Don Rowing Club, Ontario) and Aubrey Oldham (Leander Boat Club, Ontario)

In addition to the high performance aspect of this series, each location hosted a ‘Come and Try’ session to introduce over 100 newcomers to this exciting discipline of coastal rowing.

RCA wants to thank the many people who were involved in running the events, including our event partners, AMP Rowing. The support provided by the local organizing committees and their volunteers in all three locations was outstanding!

Thank you to the following equipment suppliers from across the country for their support of these coastal rowing events: Liteboat PacificGFH Group Inc., and Swift Racing. If you are interested in purchasing lightly used boats at a discount from trials, find out more here.
