Pan American Games, World Juniors come to a close

August 10, 2019 – Lima, Peru and Tokyo, Japan
IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The 2019 Pan American Games and the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships came to a close over the weekend, with crews racing in A and B finals at both events.

Pan American Games racing wrapped up at Albufera Medio Mundo in Huacho, Peru with Trish Mara (Victoria, BC) finishing fourth in the Lightweight Women’s Single A final after a battle for podium spots with Mexico, Argentina and Cuba.

Matthew Finley (St. Catharines, ON) ended the regatta strong, crossing the finish line first in the Men’s Single B final (seventh overall) with a time of 7:06.84.

“The intensity the Pan American countries have around these Games was evident out on the water, so it was great to see some of the Canadian performances through the regatta,” said Adam Parfitt, RCA National Team Operations Director. “The repeat win in the LW2x for Kate Haber and Jessica Sevick’s performance in the Women’s Single were exceptional. I think across all the crews, they each had battles they won and experiences they haven’t had before, including several with the maple leaf on their oar for the first time.”

Canada finished the 2019 Pan American Games regatta with a Women’s Pair silver, a Lightweight Women’s Double gold and a Women’s Single gold.

Three Canadian crews raced on the last day of World Junior Championship competition at Tokyo’s Sea Forest Waterway, with the Women’s Quad finishing fourth overall behind New Zealand, Germany and Romania with a time of 7:00.470.

Abigail Dent (Kenora, ON) came in sixth in the Women’s Single A final, while the Men’s Quad completed the World Juniors with a fourth place B final finish (tenth overall).
