Nominations for Election at the 2024 Rowing Canada Aviron Annual Meeting

Under the terms of Section 11 of the RCA By-Laws, the RCA Board of Directors has appointed a Nominating Committee to prepare a list of candidates for the elected offices to be voted on at the 2024 RCA Annual Meeting (to be held September 19, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. PDT via zoom link).

The current RCA Board consists of:
  • Carol Purcer, President
  • Lindsay Bergen, Athlete Director
  • Fred Enns, Director at Large
  • Paul Fritz-Németh, Director at Large
  • Derek Ventnor, Provincial Director and Treasurer
  • Charles Minett, Director at Large
  • Michael Bryden, Director at Large
The following terms expire as of September 19, 2024:
  • Fred Ens, Director at Large
  • Paul Fritz, Director at Large
 
For the two positions of Director at Large, three candidates have been endorsed by the Nominating Committee as noted below (sorted in alphabetical order by last name):
 
 
 
REBECCA ABELSON has submitted her intent to let her name stand for election. The Nominating Committee supports the nomination of Rebecca Abelson for election to a Director at Large position based on her expertise and experience.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
FRED ENNS has submitted his intent to let his name stand for re-election. The Nominating Committee supports the nomination of Fred Enns for election to a Director at Large position based on his expertise and experience.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
ALEXANDRA WRAGE has submitted her intent to let her name stand for election. The Nominating Committee supports the nomination of Alexandra Wrage for election to a Director at Large position based on her expertise and experience.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Candidate statements will be provided with the Notice of Annual Meeting documentation.
 
**Other Nominations:
In accordance with paragraph 11.6 of the RCA By-Laws, Members in Good Standing can resubmit nominations or submit additional nominations of candidates for election to the Board of Directors who meet the eligibility requirements set out in section 9.3 by tendering them to the registered office of RCA in the form set out in paragraphs 11.7 and 11.8.

Nominations in the proper form must be received by RCA no later than 30 days prior to the Annual Meeting – by August 20, 2024. This is the final closing date for nominations – no additional nominations shall be accepted after this date.

RCA shall include such nominations in the Notice of Annual Meeting and on the ballot forms for the **online election. Please refer to Section 11 of the RCA By-Laws for further information.

Voting at the 2024 RCA Annual Meeting:
Members in Good Standing as of August 29, 2024 will cast their votes prior to the RCA Annual Meeting via Electronic Ballot, no proxies, using a secure online voting system for the following agenda items:

Election of Directors:

  • Acceptance of the Annual Financial Statements and Auditor’s Report (March 31, 2024)
  • Appointment of the Auditor (March 31, 2025)
  • Online voting begins on August 30, 2024 and concludes at 12 noon PDT September 18, 2024. Voting results will be announced at the RCA Annual Meeting, September 19, 2024.

NOTES:

*Provincial Director:

For the position of Provincial Director, the Nominating Committee shall solicit and endorse a nomination put forward by the Provincial Advisory Council, provided that the candidate meets the eligibility requirements set out in Section 9.3.

**RCA By-laws, 9.3 Eligibility for Nomination as a Director
To be eligible to stand for election as a director an individual need not be a Registered Participant but must:

  • Fulfill the requirements of the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act and of the Income Tax Act that apply to serving as a director of a registered charity;
  • Not be President of a Provincial Rowing Association; an individual holding such a position may stand for election as a director of CARA but, if elected, must immediately resign from that other position; and
  • Must not, at the time of election, be under investigation, provisionally suspended or subject to a suspension imposed under the policies of CARA, a Rowing Organization, or any other sport organization that has authority over the Registered Participant.
