JOIN OUR TEAM: Director of Pathway

Podium success begins long before athletes and coaches reach the national team. It begins in our rowing community and coaching environments across the country- wherever talent is identified, developed, and inspired to pursue excellence.

Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as our Director of Pathway — a senior leadership role that will shape the future of athlete and coach development in Canada through to Brisbane 2032 and beyond. The successful candidate will help define how Canada identifies talent, develops coaches, structures competition, and supports athletes at every stage of their journey.

This is a new role for RCA that bridges domestic and high performance (HP) and is responsible for ensuring nationally aligned systems and programs are in place to connect our pathways from community to Olympic and Paralympic Podiums. This portfolio also includes national competitions, ensuring a holistic approach to meeting athlete and coach development objectives through competition programming.

With a special focus on supporting high potential development athletes and coaches who are striving to represent Canada on the world stage (e.g. NextGen), the Director of Pathway will work closely with others on the RCA Senior Leadership Team, HP and Domestic staff, and will interface frequently with performance programs and individuals from within Canada (e.g. Provincial Rowing Associations, Universities and Clubs) and internationally (e.g. US Collegiate system).

We are looking for a leader who combines strategic thinking with operational excellence; someone who can inspire people, strengthen systems, and navigate complexity with confidence and credibility.

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A demonstrated track record of leadership within high-performance sport systems or equivalent performance environments;

  • Significant experience in talent, people, and systems development;

  • Strong understanding of contemporary athlete development, well-being, and safeguarding (i.e. Safe Sport) principles;

  • Experience leading teams, managing complex portfolios, and influencing broad stakeholder networks;

  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills;

  • The ability to translate vision into practical execution in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

Top candidates will also possess:

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including a minimum of 3 years in a senior management role, preferably national in scope;

  • Experience managing budgets and programs exceeding $1M annually;

  • Experience working within national or international sport systems;

  • A post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience;

  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.

The National Office is located in Victoria, BC and the National Training Centre is located in North Cowichan, BC.  Remote opportunities will be considered for the right candidate. This position will require considerable domestic and international travel. For a full job description, please see the link below.

Salary Range: $100,903.00 – $151, 355.00 per annum. The Salary Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position.
