IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The international coastal rowing season continues this weekend, just one week after the inaugural World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, with the 2019 World Rowing Coastal Championships.
Just under 500 athletes from 28 countries and regions will be racing from November 1 to 3 at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour. This will mark the first time that the World Rowing Coastal Championships have been held in Asia.
Aubrey Oldham (Hamilton, ON), who competed in the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals in Shenzhen, China in the men’s solo and mixed double events, and Charles Hauss (Lachine, QC) will both be vying for a men’s solo podium finish.
“It was such an amazing experience to race at the Beach Sprints last weekend,” said Oldham. “The short format, the transitions, waves, and turns allowed for some close and exciting races. Having recently moved into coastal rowing I am looking forward to testing my speed over the longer distance this weekend and setting the bar for myself going into winter training and preparation for more racing next year!”
The heats and B finals will be raced over four kilometres, with A finals at six kilometres in length. All races will have on-water starts and finishes and include buoyed turns.
The men’s solo racing begins on Saturday November 2 with heats starting at 8:55am local time (Friday November 1 8:55pmET/5:55pmPT). The men’s solo B final is scheduled for Sunday November 3 at 9:05am local time (Saturday November 2 9:05pmET/6:05pmPT) with the A final set for Sunday November 3 at 3:15pm local time (3:15amET/12:15amPT).
