Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) is excited to announce the locations of the Local Events and the National Selection Trial in the 2024 RCA National Beach Sprint Tour have been selected. The purpose of the Tour is to raise the profile of Beach Sprint rowing across Canada by increasing the number of competitions available to athletes. Each Local Event will feature a development opportunity, while the National Selection Trial will include a high-performance camp for athletes.
Beach Sprint is fast and exciting, which is represented by the atmosphere at every event. With the addition of the discipline to the 2028 Olympic program, RCA is committed to growing an experienced group of athletes, coaches, umpires, and Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) in the coming years.
The Tour will begin with the RowON Beach Sprint Championships hosted by Row Ontario on Saturday, June 22 at Lakeside Beach in Ontario. “We are very excited to host the 2nd annual RowOn Beach Sprint Championships, as part of the RCA Beach Sprints Tour,” says Kate Savage, Row Ontario’s Manager, Domestic Rowing. “As the discipline gains traction in Ontario, this event will provide learning opportunities and exciting race experiences for seasoned and new Beach Sprint athletes, coaches, and umpires. We look forward to bringing greater exposure of the sport to communities and partners in the Niagara region and beyond.”
The Tour then heads across the country for the Western Canadian Beach Sprint Championships hosted by OARCA Coastal Rowing on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30 at Colwood Waterfront in British Columbia. “OARCA Coastal Rowing is excited to be hosting the 3rd Western Canadian Beach Sprint Championships as part of the RCA National Beach Sprint Tour,” says Regatta Chair Michelle Boss. “We’re looking forward to welcoming athletes back to the beautiful Colwood Waterfront for racing and this year, we are pleased to offer prize money to the top finishers in the CW1x, CM1x and CMix2x.”
The Tour culminates with the National Selection Trial hosted by Row Nova Scotia at Rissers Beach in Nova Scotia. This location was chosen as the water and beach conditions mimic the conditions athletes will encounter at the 2024 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals in Genoa, Italy. “Row Nova Scotia is very excited to be hosting this National Beach Sprint Selection Trial at Rissers Beach. Having this event on the South Shore will highlight the energy building for coastal rowing–both in our province and across the country–all while against the backdrop of just one of Nova Scotia’s many stunning beaches. We look forward to some thrilling racing!”
