IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Over 90 of Canada’s top up-and-coming rowers will be at Elk Lake in British Columbia this weekend as Victoria City Rowing Club (VCRC) hosts the 2019 Speed Orders.
This open small boat event serves as Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA)’s NextGen National Team Trials, and is mandatory for athletes interested in being considered for selection onto RCA’s 2019 Pan American Games, World Rowing U23 Championships, and U21 Trans-Tasman Regatta crews.
Performances at the 2019 Speed Orders will determine the athletes participating in the following week’s selection camp, during which RCA’s 2019 NextGen National Team will be finalized.
Among those attending the Trials are a number of athletes with past experience competing at the international Junior and U23 levels, such as Anna Burnotte, Charles Alexander, Kieanna Stephens, Marilou Duvernay Tardif, Tyler Adams, Nicholas Everett, Brett Vilk, Peter Lancashire, and Grace VandenBroek, as well as several newcomers to the sport who have been identified through the RBC Training Ground program.
In addition, three members of Canada’s 2018 World Rowing U23 Championships gold medal winning women’s eight crew, Morgan Rosts, Isabel Ruby-Hill and Ivy Elling Quaintance, will be present.
Also racing at Elk Lake will be a number of 2018 Senior National Team athletes, including Jessie Loutit and Kate Haber, and 2019 National Para Team rower Kyle Fredrickson, who will be racing in the Men’s Single.
The 2019 Speed Orders will begin with time trials on June 14, followed by repechages and semifinals on June 15 and finals on June 16. In addition, June 15 and 16 will feature a series of RCA Alumni events.
Results, schedules, and official event information will be available on RegattaCentral.
A complete outline of RCA’s 2019 Pan American, U23 and U21 NextGen National Team selection criteria can be found here.
RCA’s two other 2019 NextGen teams, the CanAmMex Regatta and World Rowing Junior Championships crews, will be selected later this month.
