Row to Tokyo – Para: The Last Chance

Row to Tokyo – Para: The Last Chance

The World Rowing Final Paralympic Qualification Regatta marks the last chance for Para rowers around the world to earn those elusive Paralympic Games quota spots for Tokyo. The Canadian team has been getting race-ready in Corgeno, Italy for the last two weeks prior to transitioning to the regatta venue in Gavirate, Italy.

Seven Canadian Para rowers will line up starting tomorrow, June 3 at 10:00am CET, with finals scheduled for Saturday, June 5.

“Our Canadian crews have been fine tuning their skills throughout the 2020 Paralympic Games postponement and are very well prepared for this week’s Final Qualification Regatta,” said Iain Brambell, RCA’s High Performance Director. “John Wetzstein, RCA’s National Paralympic program coach has worked diligently with this talented group of athletes in best preparing them for this critical juncture on the road to Tokyo.”

PR2 Mixed Double Sculls (PR2 Mix2x)

This qualification event will mark the second time this Canadian crew combination has raced internationally. Jeremy Hall (Edmonton Rowing Club) and Jessye Brockway (Gorge Narrows Rowing Club) competed at the 2019 World Championships in Austria, finishing 11th overall. Jessye was new to rowing at the time, while Jeremy also raced in the PR2 single sculls, capturing a silver medal.

There are nine entries in this event with the top two boats qualifying for Tokyo.

PR3 Mixed Coxed Four (PR3 Mix4+)

Rio Paralympic bronze medallists Andrew Todd (North Star Rowing Club) and Victoria Nolan (Victoria City Rowing Club) have reunited for the first time since 2016, combining with the young talent of Kyle Fredrickson (University of Victoria Rowing Club) in stroke seat and Bayleigh Hooper (Peterborough Rowing Club) in the bow seat. The crew is coxed by U23 world champion (BW8+) Laura Court (St. Catharines Rowing Club).

Andrew and Kyle are also two-time world champions in the PR3 pair from 2018 and 2019.

There are eight entries in this event with the top two boats qualifying for Tokyo.
