RCA Statement of Support

Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) applauds the leadership shown by the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee in taking a strong stand in making it clear we will not send Team Canada to the Games in July 2020, and in advocating for postponement until 2021.

“In our many conversations in the last few days with our sport partners, it became clear there was overwhelming support from the leadership of Canadian Sport for a strong response,” said RCA Chief Executive Officer, Terry Dillon. “Advocating to the IOC for postponement is the right way to support the dreams and aspirations of our athletes and it is the right way to support efforts to minimize the impact of COVID-19 in our communities.”

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) global outbreak rapidly evolves, we find ourselves in unprecedented times and our number one priority remains the health and well-being of our athletes, staff and entire rowing community.

We will continue to work closely with RCA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mike Wilkinson and RCA High Performance staff to support our athletes during this time of significant change.

We will continue to closely monitor this global pandemic and provide updates to the rowing community as necessary.
