Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) has selected the team to represent Canada at the 2025 World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China, from September 21-28.

This year, the World Rowing Championships will be held at the Shanghai Water Sports Centre, welcoming athletes from around the world to compete in over 20 different events.

Fresh off the World Rowing Cups and a busy international circuit, Canadian crews are ready to make the final push to China.

In 2024, the Women’s Eight captured silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics and achieved gold at the 2024 World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland. After a successful run at Canadian Henley in 2025, winning Henley Gold, the crew is eager to hit the water at World Championships.  

National Team rower Katie Clark, who impressed with strong 4^th place finishes at the World Cups in Varese and Lucerne in her international debut in Women’s Single Sculls, shared her thoughts on the team’s progress:

“I’m so excited to take on the world’s best in the Women’s Single Sculls field and see what we can accomplish as a program in Shanghai,” shares Katie. “Training this summer has been a huge focus, and I’m really confident in the work we’ve done leading into World Championships.”

Tom Morris, National Women’s Lead Coach, shared Katie’s sentiment, praising the athletes’ commitment and progress this season.

“There’s been a great energy from all of the athletes being brought to the work, and to each challenge which has shown up in all areas of training and racing and shifted the program forward,” says Tom. “The team that’s been selected has taken solid forward steps technically and physically to move towards achieving the objectives for this year and the cycle.”

The Canadian crews are adopting a team-first mentality, eager to demonstrate the results of their hard work. On the Men’s side, after strong finishes at Holland Beker, Henley Royal Regatta, and Royal Canadian Henley, they remained focused on progress and solidifying basics.

National Men’s Lead Coach, Lauren Fisher, says, “We have focused on rebuilding the identity and strong culture of the Men’s team by working hard technically and physically. We’re looking to leave no stone unturned in search of speed over the next three years.”

At the Holland Beker Regatta, the Senior Men’s Four (M4-), Joel Cullen, Ryan Clegg, Steven Rosts, and Axel Ewashko, secured back-to-back golds. Meanwhile, Trevor Jones and Terek Been in the Men’s Double (M2-) earned two second-place finishes.

National Team rower, Terek Been, spoke about the upcoming racing awaiting the team in Shanghai. “I’m excited to represent Canada on the world stage and put our hard training this year into action. Racing in Shanghai will be a new experience, and I’m especially looking forward to the challenge of doubling up internationally for the first time.”

After winning Henley Gold at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta this year, the PR3 Para team, featuring National Team rower Stu Chase, is ready to take on China and race alongside the world’s best:

“Our para crew is very excited to compete in Shanghai, up against the world’s best. This team represents a broad spectrum of ages and differing abilities. We’ve been well supported by Rowing Canada, and we’re ready to work together to lay down some solid performances during competition,” remarked Stu.

After competing at Canadian Henley in August, each Canadian crew has built on their experience at the start line and continued developing their technical principles outside of practice.

The Canadian Rowing Squads will travel to Shanghai for training camp in early September. Specific crew boats will be finalized and entered prior to the World Rowing entry deadline.
