Over the summer, Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) sought expressions of interest to fill volunteer roles essential in supporting the governance function of RCA.
Eric Sudman has been selected as the new Secretary of RCA. In his role, Eric is responsible for documenting all amendments to the Corporation’s by-laws, supervising the issuance of notice of meetings of the Board of Directors and of the members in accordance with the by-laws, and the recording and maintenance of proper minutes of proceedings at all such meetings.
With extensive experience as a corporate/commercial lawyer and corporate secretary, Eric has a proven track record of advising boards, maintaining corporate records, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. His leadership in governance, combined with hands-on experience in the sports industry, makes him well-suited to support RCA’s Board and CEO in fulfilling all corporate secretary responsibilities.
Grace Hardwicke-Brown and Sander A.J.R. Grieve, K.C. have been selected to the Governance and Policy Committee.
The Governance and Policy Committee researches policy and governance issues, providing governance and stewardship advice, and proposing action in the form of recommendations to the Board, including the strategy(ies) for implementing change. The purpose and the key duties of the Committee are found in the Terms of Reference.
Grace’s dual Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration degree and her upcoming call to the British Columbia bar provide her with a strong legal foundation to support RCA’s governance needs. Through her rowing, academic, and professional background in corporate governance, policy development, and legal analysis, she has developed expertise that will help her excel in this position.
Sander will join Grace on the committee, bringing more than 25 years of experience as a corporate lawyer. He possesses a deep understanding of corporate governance, securities, and mergers and acquisitions, as well as extensive professional experience in leadership positions. Sander has expressed his commitment to the sport of rowing in Canada’s sporting legacy, hoping to use his background in governance and stewardship to support the organization.
