RCA Announces Return of Canada Cup in 2025

Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) is pleased to announce the return of Canada Cup Regatta in 2025. The event will be hosted by the Western University Boat Club from August 15th to 17th, 2025.

The Doug Wells Rowing Centre in London, Ontario will welcome athletes under the age of 21 for the inter-provincial competition. “Western University and the City of London are thrilled to host the 2025 RCA Canada Cup Regatta on Lake Fanshawe,” said Organizing Committee Chair, Dan Bechard. “We and our local partners are very excited to support such an important event in the long-term athlete development pathway and the growth of our sport.”

The Canada Cup Regatta aims to showcase Canadian rowing in a sprint format that creates athlete participation through an exciting race program.  Each participating province can bring a maximum team of 17 athletes – 8 male, 8 female, and 1 coxswain of either gender. The Regatta features singles, doubles, pairs, and mixed-gender quads and eights competing over distances of 500m to 2000m.

The excitement for the return of Canada Cup is being felt nation-wide. “The Alberta Rowing Association is looking forward to the 2025 Canada Cup,” said Michael Simonson of Rowing Alberta. “Canada Cup represents the pre-eminent event for athletes under the ages of 21 in our country. Alberta recognizes the Canada Cup event as a stepping stone for the next generation of athletes, as they continue their pursuit in representing Canada on the international stage. Given the importance of this event, preparations in the Wild Rose Province have already begun!”

The 2025 RCA Canada Cup Regatta will be held from August 11th to 17th, with racing taking place from the 15th to 17th. Teams will have the opportunity to train on location at Lake Fanshawe prior to racing, creating valuable development opportunities and a chance to train alongside other provinces and competitors before official racing begins.
