CLUB SPOTLIGHTS
False Creek Rowing Club will present “When Funding Falls Through: Lessons in Building Sustainable Community Programming,” a candid look at what happens when funding is not secured and the impact on the club and community. This session explores how FCRC navigated the loss of key funding and what it revealed about sustainability, shared ownership, and legacy building.
Victoria City Rowing Club will present “Investing in the Future: How Our Junior Bursary Program Is Growing the Game.” This session explores the development, delivery, and impact of VCRC’s Junior Bursary Program, designed to remove financial barriers and ensure more people can participate in rowing.
Other Featured Talks
Leading the speaker lineup is Robert Fegg, Head Coach of the Canadian Luge Team, presenting his keynote session, “Thank You, Athletes: What You Taught Me About Coaching”: Reflections on trust, adaptation, and performance in modern coaching.
Also featured is Erin Davis, Founder of Erin Davis Co., Leadership Strategist, Speaker, and Facilitator, presenting “The Conversation That Changes Everything.” This session explores the concept of the transformational conversation—grounded in the question, What’s the conversation that, if we got it right, would transform how we work together in 2026?
Scott Feddery of Queen’s University and David Calder of Brentwood College School will present “Building High-Performance Pathways for Athletes: Training Volume and Competitive Environments,” an evidence-based session on developing sustainable, high-performance training environments that balance athletic excellence with personal growth and team culture.
Brent Brandham, Sr. Vice President, Sports & Entertainment at Gallagher Insurance, will present “Stronger Clubs Start with Smarter Protection: Directors and Officers Coverage and Multi-Sport Solutions,” a must-attend session for club leaders exploring how D&O liability coverage and RCA’s new multi-sport insurance program can protect leadership and support long-term club stability.
Another conference highlight, Katie Bahain-Steenman, U23 NextGen Coach, and Jana Peachey, U23 National Team athlete, will present “Training and Racing the Canadian Model Technique: Case Study of the U23 Women’s Bronze Medal Eight.” Together, they’ll share how applying the Canadian Model Technique improved cohesion and boat speed in the 2025 U23 Women’s Eight, leading to a World Championship bronze medal.
Richard Paterson, Mayah Golden, and Matt Bradshaw will lead “Talent ID and Development: Outreach, Engagement, and Community Building,” a practical session on identifying and developing the next generation of high-performing rowers.
Katie Clark and Steven Rosts, Canadian National Team Rowers, and Dane Lawson, National Training Centre Coach, will present “Finding Your Rhythm: The Journey of the National Team Rower,” an inspiring session exploring the realities of high-performance sport.
