Canadian Indoor Rowing Challenge results are in!

The inaugural Canadian Indoor Rowing Challenge was a tremendous success with rowers, CrossFit athletes and participants from around the world competing virtually in a variety of categories and distances. Over 380 individuals registered, including athletes from Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, USA, France, Tahiti, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Ecuador.

Saturday’s HomeRace Challenge events, featuring RCA National Training Centre athletes racing in real-time against participants, were broadcast live on RCA’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Victoria City Rowing Club’s Gustave (Carl) Schoch unofficially broke the Concept2 2000m Male 65-69 Hwt World Record while racing in the HomeRace Challenge with a time of 6:33.5.

“RCA would like to thank everyone involved in making this inaugural event a great success,” said Jennifer Fitzpatrick, RCA Director of Partnerships and Sport Development “It was exciting to see individuals from a range of backgrounds and countries come together for some friendly competition and our head to head HomeRace events. This is the first of many steps to come in elevating the profile of indoor rowing in Canada. Congratulations to all our draw winners and top performers.”

The winner of the grand prize draw for an indoor rowing machine is Tanya Rodger (Niagara Rowing School).

The top three finishers in each race category will receive a digital certificate celebrating their achievement by email.*

The 2021 World Rowing Indoor Championships (WRICH), presented by Concept2, will be held virtually, and the remaining two continental qualifiers see Canada hosting the Americas Continental Qualifier.

The Americas Continental Qualifier  will take place February 6-7, 2021, and will be hosted by the Canadian Indoor Rowing Association. More information on this event and registration details will be published in due course on the association’s website.

*In the event that there are three or less entries in a race category, certificates will be allocated using the ‘Minus One’ rule. Certificates will not be awarded in race categories with just one participant.
