Canada Secures First A Final Qualification

Sunday, September 21st, 2025 – Shanghai China

Canada’s Women’s Quadruple Sculls crew has secured a place in Final A at the World Rowing Championships, delivering a strong performance in their heat.

The crew, made up of Shaye De Paiva, Cassidy Deane, Kristen Siermachesky, and Alizée Brien, crossed the finish line in 06:17.84 to claim 3rd place behind Romania and Great Britain. Their result ensures Canada will line up against the world’s best in the medal race.

Cassidy Dean spoke after the race, saying, “We went out there trying to stay calm and loose in the tailwind conditions, and I think we had a pretty quick start. We are happy with how clean it was – it set us up to be in the race.”

For Alizée Brien, the race marked a career milestone as she made her debut at a World Championship regatta: “I took a moment to enjoy it, look around at the start, and know we made it, so let’s go.”

The Final A takes place on September 24th at 11:58 PM PT, 2:58 AM EST, and September 25th at 2:58 PM local time. The Women’s Quad will go up against strong crews from New Zealand, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Romania.

Looking ahead to the final, Shaye De Paiva emphasized the crew’s determination to elevate their performance: “I think there is one more gear we can throw down for the finals, and I’m excited to see where that is.”

This boat has been so exciting because we all bring very different strengths to the boat – more to come,” says Kristen Siermachesky.

On September 21st (September 22nd local time), the Men’s Double Sculls, the Women’s Four, the Men’s Four, and the Women’s Single Sculls all take to the water. Stay tuned for more:
