Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) is seeking expressions of interest to fill two (2) volunteer roles that are essential in supporting the governance function of RCA.
RCA Secretary
The Secretary is an Officer of RCA working closely with the Board and CEO and is responsible for documenting all amendments to the Corporation’s by-laws, supervising the issuance of notice of meetings of the Board of Directors and of the members in accordance with the by-laws, and the recording and maintenance of proper minutes of proceedings at all such meetings.
This is a unique opportunity for an individual to contribute to dialogue at the Board table, and advise the organization in adhering to best practices in Board engagement and governance.

We are seeking applications from individuals with a law degree who have qualifications that include knowledge, expertise and experience in the areas of:
- Corporate governance, legal administration, or board secretarial roles, preferably within a non-profit or sports organization.
- Strong understanding of governance best practices and familiarity with corporate bylaws.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Experience with meeting management, minute-taking, and compliance reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and governance software (e.g., Board management platforms) is an asset.
Time Commitment
We anticipate 8-10 hours per month via telephone, virtual, or occasional in-person meetings as required.
Member of the Governance and Policy Committee
The Governance and Policy Committee will research policy and governance issues, provide governance and stewardship advice, and propose action in the form of recommendations to the Board including the strategy(ies) for implementing The purpose and the key duties of the Committee are found in the Terms of Reference.
We are seeking applications from individuals with a law degree who have qualifications that include knowledge, expertise, and experience in the areas of:
- Governance principles and practice, particularly best practices for not-for-profit corporations in Canada, preferably in the amateur sport context.
- Implementation of governance policy and bylaw changes in the not-for-profit environment.
- Policy development and review.
- Interpretation of legislation and government policy.
Time Commitment
The Committee shall meet by telephone, virtually, or in person, as required, approximately 4-6 hours per month. Meetings will be as called by the Chairperson.
