North Cowichan has long been renowned for its flourishing local food scene, and this reputation will shine brightly at the forthcoming NRC Market. Taking place on Friday, September 29, and Saturday, September 30, during the 2023 Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) National Rowing Championships (NRCs), the NRC Market will be a vibrant showcase of the exceptional local food vendors that call North Cowichan home.

Participants, supporters, and spectators gathering at this annual regatta, where Canada’s finest rowers vie for supremacy, will quickly realize that the event is not merely a celebration of the nation’s champions but also a salute to local flavours. The NRC Market will graciously welcome local vendors to the Duncan Community Lodge, the site of the 2023 NRCs.

“We’re gearing up for what promises to be a great NRCs and adding to the excitement and fun of the event with NRC Market,” RCA National Events Manager Rachel Wolff said. “The North Cowichan community is filled with beloved vendors, and the NRC Market will be a fantastic way to connect them with the rowing community.”

The NRC Market will also play host to the Rowing Canada Aviron merchandise stall, where you can snag RCA swag and the 2023 National Rowing Championships poster. The poster has been thoughtfully designed by Raven Wolden, a Sts’alles First Nation entrepreneur, artist, and graphic designer.

“We are thrilled to have partnered with Raven to design the 2023 NRC Poster. She is an incredibly talented artist, and the 2023 NRC Poster that she has designed is a great memento of your time competing at, attending, or supporting the 2023 National Rowing Championships,” Wolff added.

Throughout the days of competition, spectators, competitors, families, and enthusiasts can indulge in a delightful array of offerings. Treat Yourself Treats will tantalize taste buds with vegan and gluten-free crunch bars, keto cacao bars, granola bars, and more. For those seeking a cool treat, local artisan gelato vendor Gondola Gelato will be offering their delectable creations all day long on Friday and Saturday.

If you’re craving a hearty pre or post-race meal, local poke bowl vendor Aloha Bowls is ready to serve up fresh poke bowls. You can even pre-order your choice, including Ahi tuna and Steelhead Salmon bowls, with the convenience of three delivery times to the NRC Market. Simply select ‘deliver to Rowing Canada Aviron.’

Another vendor is Gibby’s Cafe, where the beloved local favourite will be offering sandwiches, salads, soups, meals from the grill and more, during the NRCs. Pre-order via their website and simply select ‘deliver to Rowing Canada Aviron.’
