Rowing Canada Aviron is pleased to announce that registration for the 2018 Rowing Canada Aviron National Conference and Semi-Annual meeting is now open. The Conference will be held at the Chelsea Hotel in Toronto, ON from January 25 to 27, 2018 with the Semi-Annual meeting taking place on January 28, 2018.

Delegates who wish to book hotel rooms can do so through the link on the accommodation page. Please book before January 5, 2018 to secure the RCA discounted rate.

This year’s conference is highlighted by three Keynote Speakers: 

Mike Teti – US Rowing Coach and Coach at the University of California Berkeley

  • As a rower, Teti is a 12-time national team member and three-time Olympian winning 24 national titles, a silver medal at the 1979 Pan American Games and a bronze and gold at the 1985 and 1987 World Championships. He also won a bronze at the 1988 Olympic Games. As a coach, Teti has earned himself three consecutive US Rowing National Coach of the Year honors as well as 28 total medals at the International level. He began coaching at the University of California Berkeley after the 2008 Olympic Games.

Alex McKenzie – Manager of the Coach Accelerator Programme for High Performance Sport New Zealand

  • The aim of the Coach Accelerator Programme is to develop coaches who are capable of coaching World and/or Olympic Champions. Alex has been in this role since the program’s inception in 2009, and since that time, over 50 high performance coaches have participated in the three-year program.

Jennifer Walinga – Professor of Communication and Culture at Royal Roads University

  • An educator for 30 years, and former member of RCA’s Commonwealth, World and Olympic gold medal rowing teams and current RCA Board Member, Dr. Jennifer Walinga draws on her personal, professional, and educational experiences when facilitating problem solving and leadership processes in organizations. She is an award-winning researcher focusing all her projects on the central theme of optimal human performance. Her research interests include organizational communication, team dynamics, creative insight, social innovation, workplace health, and sport education.

The conference will also include the 37th Annual RCA Awards Banquet Dinner on Saturday, January 27. This banquet celebrates the year in Canadian rowing and recognizes members of the rowing community for their outstanding contributions.
